100% Group is incredibly proud to support homelessness charity, Emmaus, with a four-figure donation. The amount we’d normally spend on a client gift at Christmas, but this year we decided to embody Emmaus’ commitment to ‘serve those who suffer most’ by making a donation on their behalf. Last week we visited the Salford branch and witness first hand all the amazing work the charity and team do.
We enjoyed a guided tour of the Emmaus Salford with Hilary (Trustee) Rachel (Assistant Community Manager Resources) & Sallie (Corporate Partnerships Manager). This branch is currently home to 20 companions but can accommodate 26 at max capacity.
We had a good look around the charity shop which had some fantastic furniture that the residence had upcycled. We also got to visit Lucie’s Pantry which is currently managed by Pat who was previously a companion at Emmaus Salford but now lives independently as she’s employed by the community. Pat was on hand to show us around and explain how the social supermarket works.
Lucie’s Pantry is currently supporting 150 people and vulnerable families who are struggling financially in the local area. People pay £2.50 a week to pop along and select a number of items which would normally total up to about £15. Items are colour coded depending on their worth, for example a whole chicken will have a green sticker, a person is only able to select one of these.
Our donation will go to the Emmaus UK 25th Anniversary Fund. Emmaus communities apply to this fund when they have plans to either build new bedrooms or develop existing buildings into further bedrooms as we work to achieve our strategic plan; one focus to support 1000 companions by the end of 2020; we’re currently supporting 800 companions.
