When I first set up 100% Group ten years ago, I never imagined that it would come quite this far. It’s gone from a one-man band, to working alongside my brother Will, to being an award-winning global retail installation company with 74 employees based at our Manchester HQ – with lots of challenges and milestones in between of course!
I never strayed too far from the POP industry and have very much followed in my father’s footsteps, working at his founder company, NDI Display Group, before moving onto an advertising/digital marketing venture.
100% Group was formed out of a desire to go back to what I knew, where I could see a clear market opportunity for a fresh approach. My decision certainly paid off and, despite being founded during the financial crisis, our business and team have grown year on year, largely due to pioneering a new market category for international service capability allowing us to deliver retail campaigns across the EMEIA region and beyond.
We are very fortunate to partner with amazing customers, some of the biggest brands in retail, who’s support has made a significant contribution to shaping our journey for which we are extremely grateful.
2018 marked several huge milestones for the business; we won a POPAI Gold Award for a Pan-European program for Sonos, launched our US base, generated record revenues and employed 38 new 100%’ers.
It’s one achievement to grow the business to 74 people, but another thing entirely having created the incredible company culture and talented team we have today. Our diverse team is made up of 52% women, 48% men, ages ranging from 19 to 63, with international recruits speaking 15 different languages between us. 100% has such a huge variety of personalities, skills and strengths, but what unites them all is their resilience, can-do approach and willingness to take on and overcome whatever challenge is thrown their way.
This ethos was summed up well by a colleague recently “We are a family that works at pace, supports each other to develop and we have fun in a world where the only constant is change – we deliver the unknown”
Here at 100% we place a huge emphasis on rewarding employees’ hard work and commitment, offering great employee benefits combined with regular social events like departmental nights out, monthly lunches and bi-annual company conferences. As well as colleagues, I consider the 100% team as extended family, and they even threw me a surprise 40th birthday party earlier this year with my very own repurposed retail display gin bar!
To mark the occasion of our 10th Anniversary, on the 21st June we got together as a company at Hotel Football, Old Trafford for our Summer Conference where we shared the learnings of the journey so far, insight into our vision for the future, and worked together in workshops on People strategy and Communication. In the afternoon session we challenged our colleagues to bring out their competitive sides with a mini-Olympics of team building games. And of course any 100% event wouldn’t be complete without an evening of celebration in Manchester!
Here’s to 10 years of 100% Group, and I can’t wait to see what the next 10 will bring!
